Lutein enriched multi-vitamins and eye health recently came up in an article I read, which looked at ways people could enjoy continual good eyesight by what they ate and making lifestyle changes.

That last point is quite valid and often overlooked by many of us but, things like high blood pressure and diabetes, if not treated, can and do affect eye health.

On the subject of lutein in particular there have been some initial studies, which looked at how this antioxidant offers protection against the damage our eyes suffer from ultra violet and blue light.

These are two quite harmful  forms of what we call the light spectrum, which is essentially white light.
The areas of your eyes where this happens is in the retina and macula, very important for central vision.

If lutein enriched multi-vitamins can help in lessening that risk then that has to be worth considering. You could of course get it from the food you eat, in such things as egg yolks and leafy green vegetables like spinach.

The tricky bit for the experts is deciding how much lutein you need on a daily basis to ensure these health benefits start to take effect.

The consensus seems to be at around the 6mg/day mark, which if you like your spinach would mean two big bowls a day. That’s quite a feat for most of us.

However, knowing which supplements have the right amount and which ones are worth a look at, is what I discuss on my main site. Discover for yourselves some of the many positive steps you can take to safeguard your health.
