All parents know that children are a handful. They have so much energy that it can be tough to contain them and make them follow rules. Kids’ Jewelry: An Old Tradition Gets An Update

Health Parenting No Comments »

The tradition of giving rings, or jewelry in general, to children dates back thousands of years. In the old civilizations of Africa, Europe, America and Asia, a common practice was to decorate a newborn child with jewelry upon his or her birth. Jewelry, especially that which featured symbols such as ankhs or gemstones such as moonstone, was thought to help a child achieve luck and status.

While rings, bracelets and necklaces were common pieces to give babies in ancient cultures, many children also had their ears pierced so that they could be decorated with earrings. You can still see the tradition among some families in Mediterranean cultures.

As time went on, the tradition of giving jewelry to children took on new significance. Family jewelry, often in precious metals and gemstones, would be gifted to babies and young children as part of their familial inheritance. Passing jewelry from one generation to the next was also thought to have a protective effect on the child.

Teachers As Leaders In The Curriculum

Health Parenting No Comments »

How can teachers use their curriculum to train leaders for the future? How can parents encourage their children to lead when they grow up? The first place to start in raising your students into leadership is to change your own education paradigm.

“What is your education paradigm?”

The private or public schools that you attended can be compared to a manufacturing plant. The average schooler goes to this plant or education facility. It begins in kindergarten and then goes up to each level like moving up to first grade. Likened to a conveyor belt, your child takes in the same subject matter as every student in that grade level on the conveyor belt. Your kids are taught only “what to think”. Even if classics are used, the way education occurs in schools is to think what others are telling you what to think.

Too often, teachers lecture and “force-feed” information to their students. Please know I do not believe lectures are bad; they have a place. But too often, teachers lecture, telling their students what to think about the readings. Later on, tests are given to determine if the student knows what the teacher thinks about the readings, not what the students discover about the readings. John Gatto says it well.

Free Leadership Training In Your Curriculum

Health Parenting No Comments »

Leadership training and education is a process of raising our children to be leaders of the future, entrepreneurs in business, elders/deacons in the church, statesmen in the community – who do the right thing. These are the leaders who will make a change in our society. My hope for my own children is they will be excellent leaders of the future.

People wonder why one child receives leadership education and the other receives training to become a follower. The thing is, a child who is schooled in the right way to think, will more likely become future leaders. When young people think outside their comfort zone, when they work on their own way, and use it in life, then they grow to become tomorrow’s leaders, doing what is right.

How is do you train children to think? How can you do this in your curriculum. . . for free?

Andrew Kern, which hails from Circe Institute, says that the quality of your life depends on the quality of the questions being asked. Since childhood, young leaders are asked the right questions. These questions go beyond the literal sense, evaluating and analyzing ideas before they do it.
