Jehovah’s Witnesses Teachings – What Happens When You Die?

Death And Dying 1 Comment »

Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that death is like a sleep. That the soul is not immortal but mortal, and that one dies, he ceases to exist. They believe, from their understanding of the Bible, that the hope for the dead is that of a resurrection, rather than that of an immortal soul passing on to another life. What the resurrection means, is, for those who go to have, a new body, a spiritual one, to live forever with God and Christ in heaven, to fulfill a special role there in God’s purposes, what Revelation 5:9,10, and Revelation 20:5,6 refers to in terms of serving as “kings and priests”. For the majority of mankind, including many of those who might be considered “unrighteous,” as was the evildoer who was impaled next to Jesus, it will mean a resurrection to an earthly paradise. This will no doubt be true of many who may have died ignorant of the Bible and the ransom sacrifice of Jesus, who will be given another opportunity for life.

These are some scriptures that highlight the beliefs of Jehovah’s Witnesses as expressed above:

Life After Death : An Unsolved Mystery.

Death And Dying No Comments »

“Death comes as the End”, this is the most famous phrase that we live with. But is it really that way? Does everything really come to an end? Does everything wither off with the word DEATH? Is Death the only truth of Life? Or is it vice versa? Is Death just the beginning of yet another Life?

It is rightly said that there is nothing as intriguing as Death. In plain and simple medical terms, death is the end of all the biological functions of a living organism. It could be either the breakdown of the functions of the heart, the brain or both. But is that the reigning fact of Death? How can we not think for a second that there no life after Death.

This is as vast as it can be, but on a very general note, there are views that death is actually the death of the body and not of the soul. The body becomes a part of this universe and it returns to the original elements of which we are made. The whole concept of Life after Death was termed as reincarnation. Some state that the soul is immortal whereas some believe that death is the preservation of the ‘essence’ of that being or being born in some other form.

Death And Dying No Comments »

All over the world there are countless enthusiasts hot on the trail of their family history. If this is something that interests you, then there are lots of places that you can find information about your ancestors, with local archives and personal records being good examples. Gravestone memorials, particularly those from more recent centuries, are a vital part of the search too.

The inscriptions and / or epitaphs on gravestones can be used to fill in parts of the genealogical jigsaw. As well as the obvious recording of name, age and date of death, it is not uncommon to also find additional information, such as family links and occupations.

The length of the gravestone epitaph itself can give clues about the person buried there. Inscriptions are charged for by the lettering so, in general, a lengthy text suggests a family financially better off. However, shorter epitaphs are not necessarily an indication of a poor person. There may just have been a preference for simplicity, or the deceased might even have been responsible for some family misdemeanor.

As in many cultures, burials are taken very seriously in Chinese society. The rituals of Confucius Chinese tradition support prolonged mourning and to this day improper funeral arrangements are perceived to wreak ill fortune and disaster on the deceased’s family.

Once someone has died, their corpse will be cleaned, they will be changed into their best clothes, and their face and body will be covered with cloth. The deceased is then considered be to be appropriately prepared for the start of the funeral ceremony.

The Chinese funeral ceremony traditionally lasts over 49 days, with prayer services held every seven or ten days until the final burial. Family members and close friends will be expected to attend each and every one of those services.

Mourners are positioned around the coffin according to their rank in the family. There is an expectation for certain family members to wear certain colors, with black not being the only color worn. It is also customary for blood relatives and daughters-in-law to wail and cry as a sign of respect for the deceased. Any late arrivals must crawl towards the coffin.
