There really is no valid reason to drink alcohol, and since there is a difference between alcohol dependency and alcohol abuse, anyone who is drinking could be considered abusing alcohol. Alcohol dependency happens when the body, mind and spirit of a person begins to rely on the alcohol in order to avoid unpleasant side effects. Alcohol abuse is anytime someone is drinking for no valid reason.
Teens, and even pre-teens are often lured into drinking. In fact, that is the most rapidly rising age group for drug and alcohol abuse. Every year the amount of teens that begin abusing alcohol rises. Parents who suspect a problem should not wait to get treatment. Many of these teenagers grow up to be alcoholics. Alcohol abuse can soon turn to alcohol dependency and addiction. It doesn’t matter if the mind becomes addicted to the alcohol first or if the body does, the result is the same; alcoholism.
