Parents of toddlers who are getting potty trained can make a few easy preparations to take the pitfalls of trying to do it while traveling.

Remember to bring your child’s potty chair with you on the trip. This will help them keep the training routine intact. It is also nice to have when those unexpected bathroom emergencies arise, because all you have to do is pull over and put the potty chair on the seat. Just remember to bring the liners or plastic bags for the potty seat, but it will make cleanup easy.

Don’t forget to also bring extra toilet paper or diaper wipes with you on the trip. Also, use what you normally use at home, because your child will appreciate the consistency.

Take with you the things that thy are used to, and you will have one less thing to worry about in terms of potty training. Long trips can be hard on everyone in the car, and bringing some of those comforts from home helps a lot.

Another thing to think about is getting some disposable training pants for the ride. There are so many different kinds to select from and it can help protect the car as well as the child if an accident does happen.

While you should never dehydrate your child, limiting fluids on the trip will help relieve some of the bathroom pressure. It is not always easy to find a place to stop and use the bathroom right away, so keeping the need to go to a minimum will make a difference.

Plan on making regular stops for stretching and bathroom breaks at rest areas along the way. Also, don’t be shy about bringing the child’s potty chair with you to the bathroom. They often would be more comfortable using their own than someone else’s.

Be prepared for your child to have an accident or two in their potty training. Be patient that they will learn along they way. But traveling can be stressful for adults, but especially hard on kids some times.

Once you arrive at your final destination, remember to give your child lots of encouragement and positive reinforcement with his potty training. This will help you be successful on your potty training adventure.
